Pray Toward Promise

“if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, and pray facing their land which You have given to their fathers and toward the city which You have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for Your Name;”

2 Chronicles 6:38(AMP)

In 2 Chronicles Solomon builds this magnificent temple for the Lord. It is verse after verse of explaining all the detail and majesty of this astonishing piece of architecture. They do all this work by following God’s blueprints to make the temple an acceptable place for God to inhabit.

Then Solomon begins to pray to God asking Him for some promises. This is where we find the popular verse of 2 Chronicles 6:38(AMP), “if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, and pray facing their land which You have given to their fathers and toward the city which You have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for Your Name;”

I read this with new light for the first time last night. A different part of the scripture just jumped out at me. The verse says that even in captivity to “pray facing their land which You have given.”

When we are amongst captive circumstances in our life, we often pray. But do we pray in panic looking around at our situation or do we pray looking ahead to the promises God has given? This verse says to pray towards the promise. Look ahead to the freedom. Look ahead to victory. Look ahead and know that God has made a way, even while you were still in chains.

When we do this, our faith is strengthened and our hope is restored. When we focus of the faithfulness and provision of God rather than our current struggles we are reminded that this is not the end. This is not our home. This current place of captivity, is not the lavish temple we’ve been building in our relationship with God.

If you are in a hard season or place in your life right now, next time you go to pray about the situation, I encourage you to pray with the victory in mind. Pray towards the promises God has made in His Word.

Proverbs 31:25 says to, “smile at the future.” I want to encourage you today that God’s got whatever you’re facing under control. Pick your head up. Pray like the victory has come. Praise like the battle has been won. Pray towards your promise.

Be Blessed!
