I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.
2 Samuel 6:22 NIV
I wonder how much more we would do for the Lord, if we stopped trying to make sure we looked cool doing it. After all, my pride has never given me anything but problems. But my God has given me everything. Yet, day after day, we worship our pride. We make sure it’s appeased and comfortable. We agree to do whatever God asks of us, as long as everyone around us will approve.
I’m not coming at you. I’m with you, here. At the beginning of this year God spoke to me about this very issue. He told me He has so much He wants to do for and through us. But it’s going to require some dignity decline.
In this story in 2 Samuel, David is worshipping before the Lord. So vigorously and energetically that his clothes begin to unravel and fall off. That is some serious praise dancing. His wife sees him from a window and is ashamed of him. She is embarrassed of his behavior.
His response to her was, for the Lord- “I’ll be more undignified than this…”
Undignified.
David was king. But that did not stop him from laying down everyone’s expectations of him. All of his manners, his customs, his reputation. All of it- dropped at the feet of Jesus in this whirlwind of worship.
And I assure you- God was worthy of it all.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
2 Samuel 22:4
He’s worthy of every ounce of our pride. He’s worthy of every shout, every jump, every song, every clap. There is no motion of worship that can be performed that is ever too much for the Almighty.
If King David, man after God’s own heart, could slay his dignity in such a pure and genuine display of love for our Jesus, I believe it’s the least we could do as well.
I am no King. I have no title. I am not in a position of authority. That is, of course, except the one that Christ placed me in when He saved me, redeemed me, and made me the righteousness of God.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21
All I have and all I am, I owe to Jesus. He is certainly deserving of my praise. So this year, I decided I would hold nothing back. He can have it all. It’s not mine to hold onto in the first place. I have no reason to stay quiet. But I have all the reason in the world to shout.
My God has overcome death, Hell, and the grave. My Jesus made a way for me to live eternally when there was no way. Heaven is mine for the taking.
So I’m going to rejoice about it.
And it might get loud.
And I’m not sorry about it.

So for anyone who has an eye to roll, or a joke to make- you just need to know that I’ll be more undignified than this.
Because our praise is not for the mockers. Our praise is not for our pride. It’s for our Champion, our Redeemer, the Lover of our souls. It’s all about Jesus.
Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul, And all that is [deep] within me, bless His holy name.
Psalm 103:1(AMP)
That verse says, “all that is within me.” Everything. All of it. So I tell my mouth to praise the Lord. I tell my thoughts to praise the Lord. I tell my body to praise the Lord. I tell my pride to praise the Lord. I tell my fear, my doubt, my insecurity, my uncertainty- to shut up and praise the Lord. The good, the bad, the entirety of me, is to worship my King.
Jesus has been too good to me to stay silent or still. And if you’re reading this- this is your call to action. He’s been too good to you, too. We can’t stay silent. We can’t hold back our praise. There is nothing on Earth worthy of withholding. But we serve a great and mighty God, who is worthy of it all.
Be blessed!
