If You Love Me

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Deuteronomy 6:5(NIV)

It’s Valentine’s Day!

Arguably, my favorite holiday of the year and the most underrated. For one, I love the theme colors involve anything pink, I mean, can you blame a girl? I love that flowers and chocolates are the mascots and that love is the reason for celebration.

Of all the things we celebrate, love should be a most valued one. Everything works around love.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)

I know Valentine’s Day is dreaded by some who are single or maimed by love lost. But the celebration of love is not just for the newlyweds or high school sweethearts.

Of all the love we give each other, there is none greater, none more worthy of celebration, than the way God loves us.

“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)

In this love we find ourselves surrounded daily, we have every reason, all motivation, and genuine incentive to praise God on the day designated to acknowledging love.

So this year I asked the Lord, what gift can I bring you for Valentine’s Day? His answer was one from long ago:

“The third time he said to him, ;Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ He said, ‘Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep.'” John 21:17(NIV)

Feed my sheep.

The Bible says that we, God’s people, are His sheep.

“Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3(NIV)

When He says to feed His sheep, I take it to mean care for His people.

When we are correctly loving God, we are passionately loving people.

That means we are quick to forgive, we are slow to anger, we are patient with one another. We give mercy to those who have not earned it, that’s what mercy is after all. We are swift to lend a hand, reluctant to extend judgement.

If you want to be loved by many, don’t stress about the clothes you wear, or the way you look. Because people don’t need something else to compare themselves to- they need someone to make them feel important.

My husband is skilled in the art of making everyone feel like they’re the most important person in the room. I love that about him. I strive to do the same.

Because the truth is, they are. You are. God sees you as most valuable. It’s necessary that we view each other the same way.

That’s why I find Valentine’s Day so important. Because loving each other is important. Reflecting on how God loves us brings Him glory and brings us joy. There is much to celebrate. So much so it won’t fit into just one day.

We should live everyday with the celebration of love in mind, loving on and taking care of each other. But take today to eat that chocolate. 😉

Be Blessed! Happy Valentine’s Day💕
