Every Moment

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 1:8

You are not waiting on God.

I know it might feel like you are, but you’re not.

There is no moment God is not already in. He’s in your past, working it all out for your future good. He’s in your future, protecting you from the mistakes of your past. He’s in your present, perfecting all things that concern you.

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Psalm 138:8 (NKJV)

He’s in every moment, all the time. We are bound by time. He is not.

I say you aren’t waiting on Him, because He has been right here in this moment since time itself began. He’s been right here with you since before you were even born. He’s been waiting for you to come meet with Him.

Now, you might be waiting on Him to move in your life, or for the manifestation of His will, blessings, or work- but God Himself, you’re not waiting on Him. He’s there. He’s in the waiting. He’s in every moment.

Emmanuel means, “God with us.” That doesn’t just mean He comes when we call. It means He’s there even when we don’t. Just waiting for us to run to Him.

He is always working things out for your good. In every moment- even the ones you haven’t got to yet.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28(NIV)

But after a while of waiting and praying and waiting some more, it begins to feel like He is ignoring our cries. Trust me, I know. But after all my seasons of waiting, I’ve learned that-

The longer the wait, the more worth it God makes it.

He’s proven that time and time again in my life. When I’m in the middle of the struggle and I can’t see His hand on anything around me, it feels like He isn’t listening. But once the storm has passed and I see how He got me through, I look back and can see His faithfulness in every single moment.

That’s why I’ve learned that it’s okay to go to God angry. As long as you go to God. He’s tough. He can take your temper. The problem arises when we get mad at God and give Him the silent treatment. As if that’s ever fixed anyone’s issues. But don’t stomp into His presence too loudly because, remember, He’s never the one that’s wrong.

I might approach the mercy seat resentful, but I walk away repentful. He gently shows me His plans for me are good. He reminds me of His great love for me. He revives my soul.

He isn’t interested in wasting time. God wastes nothing. So don’t feel like your clock is ticking out of time. It’s never too late with God. It’s never too far gone with Jesus. God is not dragging His feet. There is always purpose in the wait.

When I get really upset with the Lord- feeling like He isn’t listening, He reminds me that He is not only in the moment of harvest. He is in every single moment in between. He did not leave you alone in your waiting season. He is there. He is present. He is available to you.

With that realization my focus begins to shift from struggling to reach a future I cannot see, to resting in the present knowing my God is holding me now, just as He is holding me then. He knows what day it is. His calendar is not lost, His clock is not broken.

He knows how old you are. He knows how long you’ve waited. He is aware of every part of you. And His answer to your question is, “I’m right here.” And I promise you, He is enough.

Look at Jesus today.

Don’t look around at your circumstances, your emotions, your bank account, your calendar. Look at Jesus.

Just like when Peter stepped out of the boat and onto the water with Jesus, when he looked at the waves he began to sink. But when he focused on Jesus that was right there in front of him, he was able to walk on water. (Matthew 14)

It is the same with you. Don’t sink by trying to figure out the next step. Focus on Jesus that is right there in front you. He has and is everything you need. You don’t have to beg, or struggle, or strive to get to Him.

He’s been waiting for you. He’s in the waiting. Look at Jesus.
