Overpriced Anxiety

Anything that costs you your peace is just overpriced anxiety.

You can’t afford it. Anything that requires your peace as payment. If it’s a relationship that you know somewhere deep down is robbing your rightness with God’s will- it’s not worth it. If it’s a job that is stealing your sleep and ransacking your rest- it’s overpriced. Sometimes even things we enjoy can cost us our peace because our conscious is at war with our flesh the whole time. Things like TV shows that aren’t appropriate, music that contradicts our beliefs, or anything that is appealing to our sin nature but contrary to our Spirit man.

Galatians 5:22 describes peace as a fruit of the Spirit. That means it’s part of our birthright as Christians. It’s part of the Salvation package. Just as we don’t trade in our Salvation for anything of this world- we shouldn’t be bartering with the fruits of the Spirit.

The reason being is because nothing of the flesh is worth it. You are getting cheated when you trade in your peace for convenience. Sometimes it’s easier to do what everyone else is doing. But if it’s costing your peace then it will be much harder in the long run.

We give up peace anytime we step outside of God’s will and calling for our life. Peace comes from being in line with God’s will. When we are exercising God’s calling in our life, we find peace even if things are difficult. When we are walking in justice and righteousness our soul is at ease.

“They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.” 1 Peter 3:11(NIV)

There is great power that comes from doing things God’s way, following God’s directions, obeying His Word, and honoring His desires for how to interact with the others around us.

If you are finding yourself full of anxiety and worry, make sure that all the areas in your life are pointing back to Jesus. Anything that is opposing to the Bible will always bring turmoil eventually.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillippians 4:6-7

When we are trusting God we can have peace even amoungst stressful circumstances. Peace doesn’t mean everything is perfect. In fact, peace is for the stressful situations. Peace is for the hard times. It’s what helps you stand firm when life is hectic.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

We find peace by keeping our mind focused on Jesus rather than the situation or circumstances surrounding us. When we truly trust God with our whole lives, we find rest in all areas.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Phillippians 4:8-9 (NKJV)

The things that hold our focus are very powerful. Your perspective is everything. The way you see and interpret the world around you determines how you respond. When we look at life through the lens of God’s Word, we find a holy perspective. The Bible says to “think on these things” and you will have peace.

If there is war within you- stop financing it with your thoughts. Cut it off at the root by meditating on God’s Word and God’s ways.

The more you seek God’s will for your life, the easier it will become to identify the things in life that are costing you your peace. And when you have discovered those things, it’s important to get rid of them. A lack of peace can physically effect the body.

Whatever it is in your life that stirs up restlessness- it’s not worth it. Get rid of it. Trust God with it. Hold your peace.
