Such a Time as this…

“…And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Esther 4:14 (NIV)

It took me a while to realize that a “calling” wasn’t specific to a job title. I mean after all, Jesus was a carpenter not a pastor. That didn’t stop Him from preaching, teaching, healing, loving, and saving the whole human race. Jesus was called to be our Savior, and He fulfilled that calling as a carpenter.

So I began to think about other people in the Bible that fulfilled a Kingdom calling in positions that had nothing to do with the standard “ministry” position.

Esther came to mind.

Esther and her family were Jews. She was an orphan raised by her cousin. She was of no royal heritage. She was not rich. But she was beautiful. The Bible describes her in Esther 2:15 as, “admired by everyone who saw her.”

She was chosen by the King to become his new queen. Esther was called to the position of queen. But as far as God was concerned, the purpose for her position was much more eternal than just becoming royalty.

The Jews were about to be slaughtered. Mordecai, Esther’s cousin, pleads with her to do something to save her people. He says to her,

“…And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

Such a time as this…

Her newfound royal position was Heaven orchestrated to execute her calling. God called Esther to save the Jews. Being queen was just her platform.

So maybe you’re a lawyer, maybe you’re a teacher, maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom.

Regardless of what your job title is, your calling is less about your occupation and more about the platform it places you on.

You don’t have to be a pastor, missionary, worship leader, or evangelist to do ministry effectively. All you need to do is recognize the ministry work to be done in front of you.

Queen is a glamorous title. But “used by God” is the far more honorable.

Don’t waste the position you’re in by failing to recognize it’s a platform- not a parking spot.

We weren’t made to just make money, pay bills, and die. We were made to effect change in the world around us. We were made to love on the people around us. We were made for eternity. We were made for such a time as this.

You’re called to more than just a career. You’re called to Kingdom build. Your time is not wasted. Your effort is not unseen. Your ordinary day to day can contain extraordinary eternal value when you honor the calling right where you are.

You were made for such a time as this- in such a place as this. Until God moves you into something new, work where you are. Work for eternity. Work for the Lord. Work to make people feel valuable. Work to show people grace. Work to love on the people around you.

You are vital to the circle of people that surround you. Don’t waste your platform.

Pray and ask God to identify your calling in your current position. It’s exciting to know you’re here for a purpose.
