“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28(NIV)
“God, can we just be real for a minute?” I said out loud while driving my car to run an errand. I was so tired and I hadn’t done my devotions for the day. Actually, I hadn’t opened my Bible in a few days if I’m being completely honest. I couldn’t even remember if I’d prayed since I woke up yet.
“I don’t have the mental energy today to say all the right words to make a pretty prayer. Can I just be honest with you even if it sounds ugly?” I felt like God was in my passenger seat just having a real conversation with me.
Of course you can. He spoke softly to my heart.
“You said you work all things out for the good of those that love you. And I’m so beyond thankful that you delivered us out of the storm we were in but God, I just don’t see how it was for our good. I feel like I’ve been robbed somehow.” My baby had a real health scare at three weeks old. God was faithful to deliver us but I still felt like I had PTSD from the whole experience. I was so wounded that my sweet baby girl had to go through all that mess. And I just didn’t see how it was any good.

That’s because I’m not done yet.
If you’re disappointed with God’s blessing, it’s because He’s not done yet.

Those words floated into my Spirit and reminded me of Luke 17. Jesus heals ten lepers. They are all so excited. But only one comes back to say thank you.
Then revelation came. God said keep coming back. Keep thanking God. Keep remembering His deliverance. Keep in contact with His presence until you are walking in the goodness that was promised.
So many times we call on God to deliver us from tragedy and once He does we go on our way like the other nine men that were healed of leprosy. I wanted more than just healing for my baby girl. I wanted a blessing. I wanted the goodness that He promised out of all things.
So no, my prayer wasn’t pretty or laced with eloquence. But it was real and God met me where I was. In the car on the way to the bank. He sat down and told me to keep coming back. To keep pulling on the blessing He had in store for me and my family. He told me that there was more to the story. He told me that there were even greater things to come.
Don’t walk out on your blessings because you gave up on God too soon. Don’t settle for just survival when God wants you to prosper. John 10:10 says that He came to give us life more abundantly.
Whatever your situation is, God wants to give you goodness for the mess and beauty for the ashes. He’s a “double for your trouble” kind of operator. Keep walking out His purposes and plans for your life. Hold fast to a heart of gratitude. After all, He is in the business of “working all things out for the good to those that love Him and called according to His purpose.”
Be Blessed!

I read this before going to church this morning and it was such a blessing to me in a circumstance I’m dealing with. While listening to my Sunday school lesson, I thought of your blog. We were talking about the disappointment of the disciples when Jesus predicted His death. We talked about how it must have felt to be present with Him through all the miracles and things He had done and how they didn’t understand why this had to change because it was so good. They must have felt that it would all be over at His death. Yet, what would be accomplished by His death would be SO MUCH MORE and His death was really the beginning! Made me think about your blog and how God isn’t done in our circumstances and will work it to our good in ways we never could imagine.

It always amazes me when God gives me insight before I need it, so that I
am prepared to speak His truth when the time comes.
