” Some people have given up the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord’s coming is getting closer.”
Hebrews 10:25
Her pastel dress was laid out the night before- her Sunday best. The bag was packed with bottles and diapers ahead of time. We woke up earlier than I thought I needed we to, just to be sure we had enough time. We didn’t. She spit up all over her dress so we had to change it. Because we got up early she got fussy and needed a nap. My hair was a disaster because I couldn’t put her down long enough to fix it. We were late. I wanted to just give up. Bringing a baby to church on a Sunday morning is so hard. But my sweet husband dragged me out of the house on the verge of a meltdown.
The baby was crying but we dragged her in anyway. Her car seat is so heavy, that’s really what it looks like- dragging. I finally sat down after what felt like a marathon of a morning and we sang a worship song, “You’ve been so so good to me. You’ve been so so good to me.” I looked down at my perfect baby and my loving husband standing next to me and I realized how valuable, how imperative, how essential this is. Gathering together. Worshiping Together.
No, it’s not convenient. But it’s worth it. We take our kids to the doctor even if we have to skip work, or cancel plans. We pay co-pays, insurance, lab fees etc. We do anything to take care of their physical health. How much more important is it to take care of their spiritual health.
It’s hard getting a baby to church. Or maybe you have multiple babies. Or older kids. Or teens. And sometimes they might not want to come. Drag them anyway. Sometimes you might not want to come. But drag yourself anyway. Come late if you have to. Come with your hair a mess if you have to. Come tired if you have to. Just come. Because for me, at the end of the day, my girl growing up under the influence of the church family is so vital. Proverbs 22:6, ” Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Hebrews says to not forsake gathering together but to encourage each other. So here I am, encouraging you today- drag your kids to church if you have to. It’ll be worth it. When they’re older and making their own decisions they’ll have a strong foundation to build on.
Be Blessed!

If you’re in the Roanoke/Wirtz area, I’d like to personally invite you to my home church- Faith Fellowship. 🙂

Lol! Humorous post. Yes, we ought to make sacrifices in our services to God. I am beginning to drag myself to church regardless of my feelings. Thank you for sharing.
